DISCOVER HOW CORONAVIRUS IS IMPACTING DIFFERENT RACIAL DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPSÂ IN CALIFORNIA
Explanation
The impact of the Covid-19 disease has been felt by communities worldwide, and the virus has left illness and death in its wake. However, some ethnic groups have experienced a greater and disproportionately negative impact. This statistical trend has been consistent in the state of California.
THE STATS
From the California Department of Public Health
As of Wednesday, April 29, 2020, according to the available data, Latinos made up 68.3 percent of the Covid-19 deaths among patients age 18 to 49, with 44.8 percent of total cases and 43.5 percent of that overall population. In the same age group, 15.3 percent of the people who died were black, while just 6.5 percent of cases and 6.3 percent of the overall population are black. The opposite is seen with the White and Asian population, as their coronavirus death rate is disproportionately lower when compared to their confirmed cases and overall population.
